New arts center brightens downtown Longville.

How do you spark economic development in Lake Country towns? Just ask the residents of Longville, Minnesota. The small town, population 180 in the 2000 census, now boasts its own arts center, a special place “where the arts flourish.”

The new Longville Arts Center came about through the combined efforts of area residents, artists, business people, and the Initiative Foundation—the culmination of more than three years of planning and preparation. It all started with a quest to foster economic development in the small communities in the area. The one common denominator? Arts! Thus the Longville Lakes Arts Alliance was born, offering arts-oriented activities to an area that encompasses Hackensack, Longville, Remer, and Walker.

Classes will are offered from May through December. For more information, please visit the Longville Arts Center website.
