Music to our ears.

Minnesota high school musicians make March magic.

Music students and educators across Minnesota look forward to two very special weeks in March. During these two weeks—last week and this week—the Minnesota Music Educators Association conducts live auditions for its All-State performing groups: concert and symphonic bands; men’s, mixed, and women’s choirs; orchestra, and jazz ensemble.

Each year, more than 2,000 high school music students from throughout the state, sponsored by qualified music teachers, participate in this live audition process. From them, a selection committee chooses more than 575 students to participate in the All-State summer camp experience. This year’s camps will be held at Concordia College in Moorhead, the University of Minnesota–Duluth, and the College of St. Benedict in New Prague.

We published a profile of the 2008 MMEA All-State Orchestra concertmaster, Rebecca Yeh, in the March/April 2009 issue of Lake Country Journal Magazine, which you can read here. For more information about the All-State program, visit the MMEA website.

And if you, or someone you know, is an aspiring musician—let us know! Just register or sign in to comment. We like to hear from you!
