Winged prayers

Butterflies carry memories, thoughts into the sky.

Saturday, August 15, 2009, will be a special day in Lake Country. The fifth annual Butterfly Release at the Pelican Woods Cemetery and Nature Trail in Breezy Point, Minnesota, will feature the release of more than one hundred monarch butterflies—each carrying silent prayers into the heavens.

The twenty-two-acre cemetery, known for its beauty, has been adopted by area master gardeners. A half-mile nature trail offers a place for peaceful meditative walks through the property.

If you would like to attend the Butterfly Release, plan to arrive at the cemetery by 3:30 p.m. The program is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. This free event will feature a speaker, a soloist, and refreshments will be served. For more information, visit the City of Breezy Point's website. Butterflies can be purchased for release at City Hall for $10 each.

To find out more about the beautiful monarch butterfly, read "On the Wing from Minnesota to Mexico" in the current Lake Country Journal Magazine. (July/August 2009, p. 38).
