Backing Up is (no longer) Hard to Do>

Don't take a chance on losing your important files and information. Read more.

As A. John Peters wrote in the May/June issue of Lake Country Journal Magazine, the three rules of computers are Backup, Backup, Backup.

So I asked some of the techno wizards here at LCJM about their favorite backup tips and tricks. Here's what they had to say:

Jodi Schwen uses flash (or thumb) drives to back up important files and carry them with her. As an added bit of advice, she recommends putting an address label on the flash drive so it can be returned if she loses it. Jodi also e-mails documents to herself so there's a handy backup copy waiting in her Inbox.

Bryan Petersen uses a portable hard drive. There's no external power source required because it connects through a USB cable. And it's perfect for people who use more than one computer. Any file he wants to use on any machine is always available on the portable hard drive. He always has access to what he needs—and it serves as a backup, too.

Brad Raymond had the most cutting-edge suggestion. He's sold on Time Capsule, a wireless hard drive that's also a full-featured WiFi base station. It works with PCs and Macs but needs OS X Leopard to work automatically with Time Machine.

So that's it from our Computer Corner. If you've got any backup gizmos or gadgets you'd like to share, just register or login and add a comment. We're always ready to try something new.
