Now that the kids are back in school, they're ready to learn. And one of the most important life lessons they can learn is how to save and manage their money.

Hackensack hosts 14 years of fishing fun!

Believe it or not, the Kids Fishing Contest in Hackensack, Minnesota, is in its 14th season. Every Tuesday from now through August 24, kids will gather at Birch Lake, near the city park. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., kids can fish for prizes and participate in minnow races and a casting contest. There's also free sodas and hot dogs.

A pilot project conducted last year proved that when youth get involved with gardening, they can increase their knowledge and skills while becoming interested in the horticulture industry.

A Web cam project has brought together the Central Lakes College Natural Resources Program, Crow Wing Power, People's Security, Consolidated Telecommunications Company, and Brainerd Public Utilities—but the stars of the show will be nesting ospreys.

Take advantage of this series of art sessions designed especially for kids! On the next four "second Saturdays," from February through May, the Crossing Arts Alliance and Brainerd ISD 181 Community Education will offer two-hour art sessions for children and families.

All sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Franklin Arts Center Cafeteria, 1001 Kingwood St., Brainerd, Minnesota.
